Recent weeks have once again seen US ships and aircraft carriers launching air strikes against targets in the Middle East. America’s role as world’s policeman has been widely criticised by countries like Russia. But many of its allies see US power as a vital stabiliser in an uncertain world, nowhere more so than in east Asia where the rise of China is making countries like the Philippines very nervous. As American ships began firing cruise missiles at targets in Syria, out in the Pacific two US carrier battle groups off the coast of Guam were carrying out the biggest live fire exercise in years. Rupert Wingfield-Hayes went aboard the USS George Washington to get a closer look.

  1. 1:29 sorry but it's was i understand "Only the U.S. Navy can do this" ? but there's 10 countries in the world that operate a aircraft carrier

  2. Well if you look at it the carriers are us territories if u go after them u have to put up with the rest and nobody else has the kind of carriers like we do and we are the peacemakes of the world

  3. Bad news for China! 😂 anyway! No need to go to war with them! All we have to do is watch them on cnn collapse like Soviet Union because their government are increasingly pissing off their own people..

  4. Everywhere can notice nowadays your spy are messing around our system. Of course if you want to visit my house, we are welcome but please knock the door and wait but not sneak in like a thief. We know very well what is going on especially someone still owe us a lot! We are opened for discussion and cooperation but not this shit. Highly recommended you should mind your own business instead!

  5. Meanwhile, Obama has brought the number of naval vessels in the US fleet to pre-WWI levels. Everyone expects the US to keep the shipping lanes of the world open and to keep China and Russia in check, yet attacks us at every opportunity. However the BBC is one of the few networks that's not openly hostile (usually).

  6. And who we're politicians that made the big trade deals with china while shipping US jobs away throughout the 90's?

Now that they had a decade to gobble up US consumer dollars, now folks want to be concerned about their military build up?

  7. It's nice to see George Washington helping ease tensions against China . Washington help defend and protect the territory that general MacArthur fought to return and liberate

  8. God bless the United States military they are and always will be the best military on the entire planet Earth.. God speed to every single one……….         ';)

  10. Europe and the US should try to find ways to intergrate more on all spectrums. Also, the EU, as the most wealthy of all, should start investing more in its armies (or army) to be a proper partner in holding China and India back.

  11. I realy do not known Chinese people think about such a huge zone sea they insist belong to them. No rules but power? How can they do like that?

  12. It's so funny how Americans can go 1000s of miles away from America to boss people around. Why can't China do the same in its own backyard? It's 1000s of miles from any us state…

  13. Keep goin' United States… as a south korean, your world looks better than what the chinese thinks the world and the nations should be.

  14. It used to worry me a lot about a war between China and the US. Not as much anymore after realizing that if a war did break out, China would be facing the US and most likely a revolution back home. It's happened before. It was between Mexico and thr US over… i think the battle of the Alamo. Mexico started to win in south western Texas but had to turn back to defend the capital from the revolution. Still worried about war… who isn't? But it is comforting to know the CCP would lose without any doubt, then afterwards an actual real democracy would take root in China. Hopefully…
