(6 Apr 1978) The USS Nimitz, pride of the United States Navy anchored in the Israeli port of Haifa thirteen days after Mr Begin returned from the United States where Israeli and United States relations sank to a twenty-year low over Israel’s hardline position on a proposed peace agreement with the Arab states. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin was shown around the biggest ship in the world. During a luncheon on board the ship both the United States Ambassador to Israel, Samuel W. Lewis And Mr Begin, exchanged warm, complimentary remarks in an apparent public attempt to end the disharmony between the two countries.
