문대통령, 해경의 날 맞아 국민안전과 해양안보 당부
Attending a ceremony in Incheon to celebrate Korea’s Coast Guard Day, President Moon ordered Korea’s maritime police to restore the public’s faith in the agency and to ensure the nation’s security.
President Moon said the Korean Coast Guard was being given a second chance by the public, as it was disbanded as punishment for failing to prevent and handle the Sewol-ho ferry sinking in 2014, which claimed more than 300 lives.
It was placed under the now-defunct Ministry of Public Safety and Security for nearly three years,… but after President Moon took office, the agency was revived as an independent organization in late July.
The president also encouraged the coast guard to become a strong and competent organization that will impeccably carry out its responsibilities.
