North Korean soldier defects to South by walking across treacherous demilitarised zone
ANOTHER North Korean soldier has defected to the South after crossing the demilitarised zone (DMZ) Tuesday, Seoul’s defence ministry has confirmed.
The defector is currently being held for questioning in the custody of South Korea after crossing the highly-dangerous territory.
This marks the second defection to the South in less than a year across the DMZ – a two-and-a-half-mile wide zone fortified with tens of thousands of troops on both sides, barbed wire, land mines, electric fencing and rows of surveillance cameras.
