Florida Keys Local News re Hurricane Irma: Boondocks — only open bar and restaurant in the area

Boondocks Bar and Grill is located on Ramrod Key around MM27. It is a huge outdoor island themed restaurant and bar with a tiki thatch roof. It has big screens everywhere to watch sports. It is also family and pet friendly. It has family fun with miniture golfing. They also have a gift shop. Get your Boondocks Irmageddon T-shirt!

They have been opened for over a week now. It went through the eye of the storm and fared well all things considering. Although they have a temporary limited menu, there is still a lot to choose from and it is yummy food. They also have live entertainment most nights. It is the only place we can find open to eat at in this particular area (other than a small Cuban rest.) while we are working on our rentals.

We live in Islamorada and travel the hour every weekend and sometimes week nights to the lower Keys to work on our two humble vacation rentals (an RV and a vintage small mobile home). Our RV is on Big Pine Key and our tiny mobile home is on Cudjoe Key. They are both considered to be at ground Zero for Irma. We sustained a few thousand dollars worth of damage which we were not insured for. Our rentals are half our livelihood. It has been nice to take a break at Boondocks.
