“Well, a national park, I am not in favour of the creation of a national park (in the Marseille Calanques). I am in favour of overseeing the Calanques because there is an increase in the number of visitors and therefore the Calanques need to be protected, because it is a magnificent area. But the national park regulations are too restrictive.”

“(The national park project) will greatly reduce the fishing zones for the professional fishermen as well as amateur boaters. (The professional fishermen) are nevertheless the heads of household. They (fishermen) represent between five and six hundred families in the areas in and around the park. So what will they (fishermen) do? As it is, they barely make a living from fishing. If the fishing zone is reduced by 50 percent, it will no longer make sense to fish for a living.”

“There are already more than one million visitors per year to the Calanques and the area covered by the future National Park. So, there are already a high number of visitors. So to do nothing would be worse than to increase the exposure created by the national park project with better management of the area with park wardens and a charter signed by the local authorities.”

There are many people on-site, on the sea, tourists and professionals, climbers, hikers and also people who have cabins for short stays and permanent residences. There are many human activities on-site. And it is true that the creation of a national park with a supervisory board and park employees is the best solution to create a permanent dialogue with all the park users with the objective to protect the local biodiversity.”
